Inspection of Unauthorized Entry into Controlled Areas, Failure to Monitor or Respond to Control Communications
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] The Seohae Regional Coast Guard Agency (Commissioner Yoon Byung-doo) announced on the 15th that it will intensively crack down on violations of vessel traffic safety from the 21st to the 27th.
This crackdown will comprehensively inspect violations such as unauthorized entry into vessel traffic control zones, failure to listen or respond to control communications, non-compliance with navigation rules, and exceeding speed limits.
According to the Vessel Traffic Control Act, if a captain fails to comply with vessel traffic control without justifiable reason, they may face imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million won.
Additionally, failure to report entry into control zones to the control center or making false reports may result in a fine of up to 3 million won.
Before the crackdown, from the 14th to the 20th, the Seohae Coast Guard Agency is conducting guidance activities through VHF (Very High Frequency) radio broadcasts, SMS (text message) notifications, and navigation safety information alerts.
A representative from the Seohae Coast Guard Agency's Security Division stated, “We plan to conduct an intensive crackdown on violations of vessel traffic safety in accordance with the Vessel Traffic Control Act,” adding, “We hope this crackdown will prevent maritime accidents, raise awareness of vessel safety, and serve as an opportunity to establish a maritime safety culture.”
