On the same day, Lee said on his Facebook, "Members and supporters of the People Power Party have made a remarkable choice. I hope that the 30-something, first-time leader will transform the main opposition party into a rational political force."
He stated, "This is not only a choice for Leader Lee but also a judgment on established politics. I once again deeply feel the fear of public sentiment."
He continued, "(The Democratic Party) must completely set aside political gains and losses and reflect on whether it is showing an attitude of engaging in debates on any topic where public opinion conflicts without avoidance, whether it empathizes and communicates in the language of youth, or whether it tries to lecture them. Only a stance that never underestimates the sovereign even for a moment and competent reforms that change the lives of the people can turn back the sharp gaze of the public," he emphasized.
Lee added, "I feel tense. The change of a competitor is both the greatest threat and the greatest opportunity for mutual development. So it is a pleasant tension," and said, "The Democratic Party has precious historical experience of overcoming crises and turning fearful challenges into reality whenever it faced difficulties. I am confident that we can also overcome the task given to us today."
