[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's anticipated entry into the People Power Party is being accepted as a foregone conclusion, but Yoon's camp has drawn a clear line, calling it "groundless." They strongly deny the speculation that he might make an "early appearance" as soon as this month.
On the 3rd, Lee Wan-gyu, a close aide and lawyer to Yoon, told this outlet in a phone interview, "The official position is that nothing has been decided regarding the timing or whether he will join the People Power Party." Regarding reports that he would join the party as a regular member this month, he said, "I don't know who they heard that from or how such reports came out," adding firmly, "As far as I know, that is not true."
Lee also dismissed forecasts that Yoon would begin his presidential bid as early as June or by July at the latest. When asked about the possibility of a June declaration of candidacy, he replied, "I have not heard anything about that," and emphasized, "I have repeatedly said that nothing has been decided, so I think these reports are speculative articles."
However, some analysts suggest that Yoon has decided to join the People Power Party but is reconsidering the timing of the decision and announcement. The intention is to maximize the benefits that can be gained from joining the party and launching his candidacy.
