Statistics Korea to Announce 'April Online Shopping Trends' on the 3rd
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Online shopping transaction volume continued its double-digit growth. Due to increased outdoor activities in spring, cultural and leisure services rose by 84.5% compared to the same month last year.
According to the 'April Online Shopping Trends' released by Statistics Korea on the 3rd, online shopping transaction volume reached 15.0904 trillion KRW, a 25.2% increase from one year ago. However, compared to March (15.949 trillion KRW), the transaction volume decreased by 858.5 billion KRW (5.4%).
By product category, food service transactions surged by 56.5% due to increased demand for delivery food amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, transactions for beverages and groceries (29.5%) and home appliances, electronics, and telecommunications devices (25.9%) also increased. With the weather warming and outdoor activities rising, online transactions for cultural and leisure services increased by 84.5% compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, mobile shopping transaction volume reached 10.7303 trillion KRW, a 34.0% increase from the previous year. Its share of total online transactions also rose by 4.6%, from 66.6% last year to 71.1% this year.
