[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] SK Inc. C&C is teaming up with the U.S. automated logistics company BriteLab to expand its smart manufacturing business both domestically and internationally.
SK C&C announced on the 3rd that it signed a "Global Manufacturing High-Tech Joint Development Agreement" with BriteLab.
Located in Silicon Valley, USA, BriteLab is a U.S. semiconductor AMHS (Automated Material Handling System) specialist company. It has secured 24 global 200mm and 300mm foundry customers including Texas Instruments (TI), NXP Semiconductors, On-Semi, and Global Foundries.
This agreement was made after BriteLab, which was pursuing the expansion of its manufacturing high-tech business, confirmed the successful cases of SK C&C’s smart manufacturing platforms and solutions applied in domestic manufacturing industry sites.
According to the agreement, the two companies will operate a Joint Working Group (JWG) composed of technical experts and business development personnel, and based on this, select manufacturing high-tech solutions tailored to BriteLab’s AMHS customer demands and promote commercialization.
The two companies will also explore AI-based quality management business using SK C&C’s ‘I-FACTs Smart Vision’ to achieve rapid business results.
Smart Vision is a universal AI package solution capable of reading the smallest unit pixels on a screen and quickly learning the read information. It is highly applicable in quality management tasks across the entire production process and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) fields such as water quality management.
By collecting images generated through cameras or CCTV and analyzing the data, AI can perform inspection tasks such as ▲defect inspection ▲product identification ▲dimension measurement?tasks that previously required workers to use expensive separate quality equipment?more quickly and accurately.
The two companies will also develop manufacturing high-tech businesses targeting BriteLab’s contract manufacturing and contract engineering customers. BriteLab has been conducting contract development and production businesses for global advanced IT company clients, including lidar for autonomous vehicles, ▲factory automation robots ▲data center monitoring robots ▲smart machines ▲unmanned drones, and more.
They plan to propose manufacturing high-tech digital services based on digital platforms linked to customers’ new products during the contract development and production process.
Kim Young-dae, head of SK C&C’s Digital New Biz division, said, "Through cooperation with BriteLab, we will open the path for global expansion of the manufacturing vertical solutions business," adding, "We will present customer-centric manufacturing digital services tailored to the demands of BriteLab’s major manufacturing customers in the U.S."
