[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) will hold the 'Guro Book Festival' online.

Guro-gu announced on the 27th, "To provide residents exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic with an opportunity for healing through books, we have prepared the 'Guro Book Festival.'"

Now in its 9th year, the 'Guro Book Festival' began in 2013 to promote a reading culture. The slogan was set as "Reading Guro! Dreaming Residents!" with the hope that people will unfold their dreams and hopes through books.

The festival will be broadcast live in real-time starting at 2 p.m. on the 29th via the YouTube channel 'GUROBOOK,' beginning with congratulatory remarks and the opening declaration by Mayor Lee Seong.

Following this, the reading quiz competition 'Family Reading Golden Bell' will take place. Elementary students and their parents form teams and solve questions in a survival format. Questions will be drawn from three books in the infant, child, and youth categories of the 2021 'Guro Books' and related to the public library. A total of 50 teams will participate via the online platform ZOOM, and six teams with excellent scores will receive medals and book gift certificates.

In addition to participants, anyone can watch through YouTube, and a quiz event with small prizes will also be held.

Meanwhile, various reading competitions were held ahead of this festival.

The 'Family Book Report Writing Contest,' where two or more family members read the same book and write a book report, was held from the 15th of last month to the 14th of this month, selecting seven teams, and the results were announced on the Lighthouse of Wisdom website on the 21st.

From the 19th of last month to the 10th of this month, the 'Library Challenge Reading Photo Contest' was conducted, targeting photos showing everyday reading scenes or library support slogans, and 12 works were selected through voting on the Lighthouse of Wisdom website.

To encourage residents' interest in libraries, the 'Library Expedition Team' was also held from the 19th of last month to the 18th of this month. The 'Library Expedition Team' involves visiting five or more of the 18 designated locations within the district, including public libraries and bookstores, and completing missions. Those who complete the challenge will receive prizes on the day of the festival.

The festival will conclude with a closing ceremony.

A Guro-gu official said, "We hope residents will become closer to books through this book festival," and added, "We will do our best to prepare various programs linked to books in the future."
