Ahead of the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit, 243 Domestic Local Governments Make Declaration
[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 25th, Jeollanam-do Hampyeong-gun announced that it declared carbon neutrality by 2050 together with all 243 local governments in Korea by participating in the 'Special Session on Carbon Neutrality Practice,' held online and jointly hosted by the Ministry of Environment and the 'Carbon Neutral Local Government Practice Alliance.'
Last October, Korea declared carbon neutrality to minimize greenhouse gas emissions that cause global temperature rise. Carbon neutrality means increasing carbon sinks such as forests to make the net greenhouse gas emissions '0.'
Taking this event as an opportunity, Hampyeong-gun will also join efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
The county has been promoting projects such as the electric vehicle distribution project and early retirement support for old diesel vehicles to respond to climate change.
A county official stated, "We will continue to strengthen efforts to respond to climate change."
Meanwhile, the 'Special Session on Carbon Neutrality Practice' was held on the afternoon of the 24th at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul as one of the pre-events of the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit.
