Gogchang County Mayor Ugisang: "Please Fully Experience the Spatial Aesthetics of Traditional Hanok"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Yoo Gi-sang, the former governor of Gochang County, Jeonbuk, gave a special lecture on the spatial aesthetics of Gochang Hanok.

According to Gochang County on the 12th, that morning, Governor Yoo visited Jeonbuk National University Gochang Campus and gave a special lecture on the beauty of Gochang Hanok to about 30 high-ranking public officials who are trainees at the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Human Resources Development Institute.

On that day, Governor Yoo talked about the beauty of Gochang Hanok, the traditional old street experience village around Gochang Eupseong, and architectural cases of Gochang Hanok.

He introduced Hanok buildings such as Gochang Eupseong, Seonunsa Temple, Munsusa Temple, Mujang Eupseong, Gochang Hyanggyo, Mujang Hyanggyo, Kim Gi-seo Ganghakdang, and Chwiseokjeong.

Governor Yoo emphasized, “In Hanok, walls are not fixed and can be adjusted freely according to people's wishes. The boundaries between rooms, the wooden floor (maru), and the yard are meaningless,” adding, “Chwiseokjeong also well demonstrates the function of combining closed rooms and open wooden floors to appreciate nature and cultivate the scholarly spirit.”

Along with Hanok, Gochang is attracting people from various social sectors seeking to experience the small-town simplicity surrounded by beautiful nature instead of the abundance of large cities, emotional culture, and tangible and intangible assets that represent the beauty of Gochang.

Governor Yoo Gi-sang said, “Gochang County is creating various jobs related to Hanok, and the trainees settling in the region are significantly contributing to population inflow,” adding, “We will continue to specialize in utilizing already established hub spaces within the region to support the settlement of young and middle-aged people, the core agents of regional vitality.”
