Dozens Dead After Vaccination?..."All Fake News"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] The government has predicted that after completing vaccinations primarily for the elderly by the first half of this year, the number of deaths and critically ill patients due to COVID-19 will significantly decrease.
On the 11th, Son Young-rae, head of the Social Strategy Division at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, stated at the regular COVID-19 briefing, "Among the elderly who have been vaccinated, deaths and critically ill cases will hardly occur, so from July onward, the number of deaths and severe cases will greatly decline."
He added, "Since there is a high possibility of easing quarantine measures from July, unvaccinated elderly individuals still face infection risks," and emphasized, "Please keep in mind that vaccination is necessary not for others but for yourself."
Additionally, health authorities urged caution against fake news related to the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and repeatedly encouraged vaccination. Son said, "There is concern about confirmation bias where people avoid vaccination believing baseless false information that causes excessive anxiety circulating on the internet."
He specifically expressed concern over fake news such as ▲ dozens of deaths after receiving the AZ vaccine ▲ the government not acknowledging vaccine side effects ▲ advanced countries not using the AZ vaccine. He explained, "The number of death reports after vaccination is similar between AZ and Pfizer," and added, "Since leaders of Germany, the UK, and France have also been vaccinated with the AZ vaccine, the claim that advanced countries do not use the AZ vaccine is false."
Meanwhile, as vaccination expands, authorities are reviewing various incentives. Son stated, "Overseas, there is observation of more active gatherings among vaccinated individuals and the implementation of education and cultural programs, indicating autonomous vaccination incentives in the private sector," and added, "As vaccination expands, we will continue to review detailed vaccination incentives from multiple angles."
