[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] Controversy arose after claims were made that a woman in her 70s became hemiplegic after receiving the Pfizer vaccine to prevent COVID-19.
On the 6th, a petition titled "My mother received the Pfizer vaccine, developed a blood clot in her brain, resulting in necrosis of one side of the brain and hemiplegia" was posted on the Blue House National Petition Board. The petitioner stated that she lives in Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk, and posted a petition describing how her mother, who was in the early stages of dementia, experienced a decline in health after receiving the Pfizer vaccine.
The petitioner stated, "My mother is 78 years old this year. Before receiving the Pfizer vaccine on April 7, 2021, she had high blood pressure and diabetes but was able to live without any difficulties." She continued, "While attending a daytime care center due to early-stage dementia, we learned that vaccination was required to continue attending the center," and added, "On the day she received the vaccine through the daytime care center, she took her medication regularly and was diagnosed by the public health center as fit to receive the vaccine."
The petitioner said, "Problems arose the day after the vaccination." She also mentioned, "She was hospitalized 2 to 3 days after the vaccination. Medical staff diagnosed that blockage of the aorta leading to the brain is rare," and added, "Currently, she can only slightly move one finger and one toe." Furthermore, the petitioner stated, "The hospital contacted the public health center, but after review, we were only informed that these symptoms were not related to the vaccine."
She claimed, "The quarantine authorities attributed this to underlying conditions and said they could not provide financial support for treatment." She also appealed, "Most elderly people have minor illnesses, but I hope this situation is not simply dismissed as an issue of underlying conditions," and "Please allow her to receive treatment until the very end."
