Male prison officer sexually harasses male inmate saying "You should wear a bra"... Prosecutors investigate

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] A male correctional officer at the Gyeongbuk Vocational Training Prison within Cheongsong Prison in Gyeongbuk has been found to have engaged in sexually harassing and sexually inappropriate behavior toward a male inmate of the same sex, and is currently under prosecution investigation.

According to the Gyeongbuk Vocational Training Prison on the 6th, Correctional Officer A, who was in charge of certification-related education in the prison's classroom from February to March, committed sexually harassing and sexually inappropriate acts twice against inmate B.

At the time, Officer A reportedly touched inmate B’s large abdomen and chest while making remarks such as "You should wear a bra," and "Your side is like a tube. You could survive even if you fell into the sea."

Following inmate B’s request due to feelings of shame, the prison conducted an internal investigation, which confirmed the allegations were true.

The prison recommended that the prosecution take charge of the investigation at the end of March and excluded Officer A from inmate education duties.

B’s younger sister said, "My brother felt severe shame because of this incident," adding, "He is suffering mentally, even developing alopecia areata due to the shock."

A prison official stated, "Officer A engaged in behavior that should never be done as a correctional officer," and added, "We have also educated other staff to be especially cautious about their conduct, and disciplinary procedures will be taken once the prosecution’s investigation is complete."
