[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, referred to President Moon Jae-in's approval rating near the end of his term as "truly an all-time high approval rating."
On the 27th, Jeong shared the results of a public opinion poll released that day on his Facebook page. The survey showed that 46.7% of respondents "support President Moon," while 49.4% "do not support President Moon." The margin of error for this survey is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
Regarding this, Jeong said, "Has there ever been a president with about one year left in their term who recorded an approval rating in the mid-to-high 40% range? Not in my memory."
He added, "It is even more surprising considering this result was achieved amid various adverse factors and one-sided media support," and said, "Our people do not easily trust the media. That shows how wise they are."
He questioned, "Isn't this evidence that despite the unprecedented national disaster caused by COVID-19, the public's expectations for President Moon have not faded?"
Jeong also said, "We have secured vaccines amounting to about twice the entire population of our country and have the capacity to vaccinate 1.5 million people per day after May. I hope we overcome COVID-19 through herd immunity before November," and added, "I pray that the people trust the Moon Jae-in administration's quarantine authorities, get vaccinated as soon as possible, and return to a healthy daily life."
Furthermore, he stated, "I believe the conspiracy of malicious forces trying to intentionally inflate anxiety by stirring up fake news about vaccines did not succeed," and said, "The national competitiveness of the Republic of Korea lies in its people. It is thanks to the people that Korea has become a model for COVID-19 quarantine."
Meanwhile, the poll Jeong mentioned was conducted by Win-G Korea Consulting on behalf of Asia Economy from the 24th to 25th, surveying 1,008 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide. For detailed information, please refer to the website of the Central Election Survey Deliberation Commission.
