Gimhae City Council Holds First Meeting of 'Practical Promotion Team' for Full Revision of Local Autonomy Act

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] On the 16th, the Gimhae City Council in Gyeongnam formed a practical task force for council operations and held its first meeting to review and respond to follow-up measures in accordance with the full revision of the Local Autonomy Act.


At the meeting, they identified key amendments related to the strengthening of local council decentralization, independence of council personnel authority, introduction of policy support specialists, autonomy in council operations, and the introduction of a resident ordinance proposal system, all set to take effect in January next year. They discussed preparation tasks for each issue and future implementation plans.


The practical task force for council operations was composed of a total of eight members, led by Hwang Hyun-jae, Chair of the Council Operations Committee, with Kim Jin-gyu as vice-chair, along with a specialist from the Administrative Autonomy Committee, a legislative policy specialist, and the head of the council affairs team.


The task force plans to continuously hold practical meetings to organize local regulations in accordance with the enactment and revision of related laws, review sector-specific implementation plans, prepare follow-up measures, and proactively respond.


Chairman Song Yoo-in stated, "The full revision of the Local Autonomy Act will serve as an opportunity for local councils to get one step closer to citizens," adding, "We will do our best in follow-up measures to ensure the stable establishment of the system so that the practical authority of local councils can be expanded."
