A Cooperative Formed to Support Carbon Neutral Technology Development

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced on the 16th that it will establish a Carbon Neutrality Research Consortium. Fourteen companies and associations, including Hyundai Motor, SK Hynix, POSCO, and the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, will participate. While the government and industry-specific associations are discussing the transition to carbon neutrality, this is the first time that the industrial sector has formed a consortium for research and development.

The consortium will help respond efficiently to carbon neutrality and develop reduction technologies. Carbon neutrality aims to eliminate net greenhouse gas emissions, and South Korea has declared the goal for 2050. The consortium will identify common research and development tasks in connection with the Carbon Neutral Industry Transition Promotion Committee, which was launched on the same day. Collaboration with government and public institutions and gathering expert opinions will also be conducted.

Woo Tae-hee, Vice Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and chairman of the consortium, said, "It is necessary to respond proactively and actively to adapt well to the new normal and utilize this as a new growth engine."
