According to the police on the 15th, the Mapo Police Station in Seoul is investigating Kang on suspicion of violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act.
Yoon Yong-pil, CEO of KT Skylife TV, was also booked on charges of providing the golf club membership to Kang.
The Press Union reported to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission in December 2019 that Kang received and used a golf club membership of subsidiary A golf club from Yoon, CEO of KT Skylife TV, a subsidiary. KT Skylife and KT Skylife TV are broadcasting operators, and their employees are subject to the Kim Young-ran Act.
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission reportedly requested a police investigation in June last year, stating that further investigation was necessary. After the investigation request, the police summoned Kang and Yoon for questioning and conducted a seizure and search of A golf club.
The union suspects that Kang may have given preferential treatment to Yoon in return for receiving the golf club membership at that time.
A police official said, "Since a lot of investigation has already been conducted, the investigation is expected to conclude soon."
