‘Masters Champ’ Matsuyama Hideki (Japan) jumped 11 spots from 25th last week in the world rankings. He received 5.36 points in the weekly official golf world rankings announced on the afternoon of the 12th (Korean time). On the morning of the same day, at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, USA (par 72, 7,475 yards), he added 1 over par on the final day of the Masters to achieve a 1-stroke victory (10 under par, 278 strokes). This is the first win by an Asian player, surpassing last year's joint 2nd place Im Sung-jae (23, CJ Logistics).
This is his 6th career win, the first in 3 years and 8 months since the 2017 World Golf Championships (WGC) Bridgestone Invitational. The ‘Top 4’ remain the same with Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas (both USA), Jon Rahm (Spain), and Collin Morikawa (USA). Masters joint 3rd place Xander Schauffele is 5th, and ‘Hulk’ Bryson DeChambeau (both USA) swapped places at 6th. For Korea, Im Sung-jae (23) is 20th, Kim Si-woo (26) 47th, and An Byeong-hun (30, both CJ Logistics) 96th, respectively.
