Two Death Reports After Vaccination All Had Underlying Conditions... 3 More Confirmed Cases After Vaccination (Update)

[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] The number of reported adverse reactions following COVID-19 vaccination has increased by 936 cases, totaling 4,851 cases.


According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team as of midnight on the 9th, the number of newly reported adverse reactions after vaccination was 936 cases, and the number of reported deaths increased by 2 from the previous day, bringing the cumulative total to 13.


Among the two newly reported deaths, a male patient in his 50s who was hospitalized in a nursing hospital received the vaccine on the 3rd and passed away on the 7th, approximately 89 hours later.


Another female patient in her 50s, also hospitalized in a nursing hospital, received the vaccine on the 2nd and died on the 7th, 115 hours later.


Both deceased individuals had underlying health conditions.


Suspected cases of anaphylaxis (severe systemic allergic reaction) increased by 10, totaling 43 cases. Suspected anaphylaxis cases are categorized as anaphylaxis, anaphylactic shock, and anaphylactoid reactions. Among the 43 cases, 42 were anaphylactoid reactions and 1 was anaphylactic shock.


The remaining 924 cases involved common post-vaccination symptoms such as muscle pain, headache, fever, nausea, and vomiting.


As of midnight on this day, an additional 64,111 people received vaccinations, bringing the total number of people who completed the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to 383,346.


Among them, 377,138 received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and 6,208 received the Pfizer vaccine.


By vaccination institutions and target groups, 170,662 (83.5%) were from nursing hospitals, 60,683 (55.9%) from nursing facilities, 10,299 (13.5%) were first responders, and 135,494 (41.8%) were from hospital-level or higher medical institutions.


6,208 people (11%) from COVID-19 patient treatment hospitals received vaccinations.


Three additional confirmed cases after vaccination were reported on this day, increasing the total to six.


Previously, two nurses and one medical staff member at the National Medical Center (NMC) were confirmed positive after vaccination, and three more cases were added. The identities of the three additional cases were not disclosed.


The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency stated, "There is still a possibility of infection after the first vaccination. Infection is possible before antibodies are formed, and some infections may have occurred before vaccination, so this is not a unique situation or an error."
