[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused collective trauma more severe than that of World War II.

According to US economic broadcaster CNBC on the 5th (local time), WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, "Almost the entire world is affected by the COVID-19 pandemic," adding, "We are experiencing trauma greater than the suffering the world endured after World War II."

He further explained, "The trauma caused by this will affect communities for years to come."

Director-General Ghebreyesus emphasized that countries around the world need to establish support measures for people's mental health in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. While governments have introduced stimulus measures to address the economic crisis following COVID-19, support for mental health remains noticeably lacking.

Dr. Mike Ryan of WHO also urged the establishment of support measures to ensure the psychological stability of those suffering from the aftermath of COVID-19.
