[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…The European Tour is considering holding tournaments in the United States.
The British Daily Telegraph reported on the 3rd (Korean time) that "Keith Pelley, Secretary General of the European Tour, recently sent a memo to players," adding, "They discussed the idea of holding the three tournaments following the Masters not in Europe but in the United States." In April, after the Masters, the Tenerife Open and Gran Canaria Lopesan Open in Spain, and the Portugal Masters in Portugal are scheduled to be held consecutively.
Spain and Portugal do not allow entry to nationals from the UK and South Africa, which are sources of COVID-19 variants. Golf players are no exception. Players from these two countries make up about 25%. This is why Secretary General Pelley and the leadership are considering moving the location to the United States. The European Tour's establishment of a strategic partnership with the U.S. Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour also strengthens the possibility of realizing this plan.
