[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Homeplus announced on the 2nd that it held an awards ceremony for the ‘Hope SONG Campaign,’ planned with the purpose of praying for the end of Covid-19 and supporting the weary daily lives and minds of the public.
The ‘Hope SONG Campaign,’ conducted by Homeplus in collaboration with SBS Medianet, was a national music contest composed of a song with the hope code ‘C-E-F-G,’ meaning ‘Covid-19 End, Fighting Global.’ It was planned to provide young musicians, who lost opportunities due to concert cancellations amid the Covid-19 crisis, a platform to promote their songs and to revitalize the stagnant offline retail sector.
A total of 1,112 songs were submitted for this event, attracting attention as current and former singers who recently appeared on TV audition programs and sang famous drama OSTs also participated. In fact, Lee Tae-kwon, who won second place, has a history of appearing on audition programs such as ‘The Great Birth’ (runner-up) and ‘Sing Again’ (finalist).
The winning musicians were judged by hope mentors including singer Yoon Do-hyun, Sandara Park (2NE1), singer-songwriter Yoo Jae-hwan, and SBS music producers, who selected the final five songs. Then, a national vote determined the final rankings. The first prize, with a cash award of 10 million won, was awarded to Kim Hyun-ah and Gye Ji-hyung for their song titled ‘Go Out.’ Following them, Lee Tae-kwon and Moon Ji-hyun (Endure), Jo Hee-yeon and Hwang Yeo-woon (At the End of a Turbulent Season, Warm Spring Will Come), Kim Kang-joo (Don’t Be Intimidated in a Dream), and Park Ji-sung (Gather Gather) were selected as 2nd to 5th place respectively.
Kim Hyun-ah and Gye Ji-hyung expressed their gratitude, saying, “We thank you for providing a great opportunity to musicians who lost their chance to perform on stage due to the impact of Covid-19,” and added, “We will continue to strive to become musicians who have a positive influence on the public.”
The final first-place song will be completed as a ‘National Hope Song’ with featuring and arrangement participation from the hope mentors, and it will be broadcast nationwide through Homeplus stores this year after lyric revisions.
