[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 2nd that it took preemptive measures to prevent the spread of community infection after a daycare teacher commuting from Mokpo to Wando was classified as a COVID-19 confirmed case on the 22nd of last month, and six additional infections related to this occurred.
The county judged on the 2nd that there was a high risk of cases like daycare infections occurring ahead of the 2021 elementary, middle, and high school openings, and decided on the 26th of last month, in close cooperation with the Wando Office of Education and schools, to conduct mass testing for all teaching staff.
Accordingly, from the 27th of last month to the 1st, PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests were conducted for teaching staff in Wando-gun.
County Governor Shin Woo-cheol said, “We conducted diagnostic tests (PCR) for teaching staff as a lesson from the daycare infection case to prevent recurrence,” and added, “I thank the Wando Office of Education, teaching staff, and school officials for their close and prompt cooperation, and even if the test results come out negative, I ask everyone to strictly adhere to COVID-19 daily quarantine guidelines.”
