Gyeonggi Division Group Award, Director Kang Gi-bae Honored in Coaching Category
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Jinju City Hall Rowing Team in Gyeongnam announced on the 1st that Director Kang Gi-bae received the Encouragement Award in the competition category and the Coaching Award at the "67th Korea Sports Council Sports Awards" hosted by the Korea Rowing Association.
The Jinju City Hall Rowing Team was recognized once again for their achievements last year by receiving the Korea Sports Council Sports Award following their selection as an excellent organization in the 2020 Korea Rowing Association awardees.
The Korea Sports Council Sports Award is the most prestigious award in the sports field, given annually to athletes and organizations with outstanding achievements in 10 categories including competition, coaching, and refereeing. This year, due to the impact of COVID-19, the award ceremony was held online. Kim Taek-se, president of the Jinju City Sports Council, presented the award to the rowing team.
The Jinju City Hall Rowing Team was founded in 1991 with just one athlete and has transformed into the nation's top rowing team with nine members including the director, coaches, and athletes.
Based on the highest level of leadership, athletes, and training facilities nationwide, the Jinju City Hall Rowing Team participated in various national rowing competitions last year, winning 7 gold medals, 1 silver medal, 3 bronze medals, and producing 3 national representatives, confirming their status as the strongest rowing team in the country.
Director Kang Gi-bae said, "Although training was difficult last year due to the impact of COVID-19, thanks to Jinju City's active support and interest, we were able to achieve good results, and we will continue to strive to show excellent skills this year as well," expressing his gratitude upon receiving the award.
Kim Taek-se, president of the Jinju City Sports Council, who presented the award, encouraged, "Congratulations to the Jinju City Hall Rowing Team on their award, and I hope they will continue to elevate Jinju City's status nationwide with excellent performance."
Meanwhile, the Jinju City Hall Rowing Team plans to participate in various competitions this year, starting with the Hwacheon Peace Cup National Rowing Competition next month, aiming to cut through the golden waves.
