[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, reaffirmed his stance of not running for president in relation to his candidacy for Seoul mayor.
On the 18th, during the ‘Ahn Cheol-soo - Geum Tae-seop Seoul Mayor Candidate Unification Debate’ hosted by Channel A, former lawmaker Geum pointed out, "There are concerns that if Leader Ahn is elected as Seoul mayor, he might run for president," and added, "There are worries about becoming an eight-month mayor."
Leader Ahn said, "When I announced my candidacy for mayor, I stated that I would give up the presidential election and become the mayor of Seoul. I said I would be a bridgehead for regime change," and added, "All the pledges I announced now are five-year pledges."
He stated, "Yesterday, I also spoke about economic policies at a vacant store in Myeong-dong, and those are also five-year pledges," and explained, "If it is difficult to achieve them within five years, I said I would lay the groundwork so that the projects can continue continuously." This means that if elected as Seoul mayor, he will not consider running for president and will challenge for re-election as Seoul mayor.
