[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province has recently taken all-out measures to prevent the spread of a cluster infection following the consecutive occurrence of confirmed cases related to a church located in Jido-eup, Sinan County.
According to the province on the 17th, as of this day, there are a total of 16 confirmed cases related to the church in Jido-eup, Sinan County. After 2 cases in Sinan on the 14th, 7 cases each in Muan and Sinan were confirmed consecutively the day before.
The couple confirmed in Sinan County on the 14th, Jeonnam Nos. 777 and 778, attended a lecture at Jido Church and worship services on the 3rd and 7th from the 25th to the 31st of last month, coming into contact with church members, and subsequently, 7 people were confirmed positive.
The 7 people confirmed in Muan County the day before are all family members.
Jeonnam No. 784 is the granddaughter of Jeonnam Nos. 782 and 783 and visited the church in Jido-eup on the 7th. It is presumed that Jeonnam Nos. 784 and 793 visited their paternal home in Hyeonggyeong-myeon, Muan, on the 11th, where Jeonnam Nos. 795 and 796 were infected.
More than half of the confirmed cases are asymptomatic, and since the final contact occurred at the church, there are concerns about additional infections depending on the movement of contacts.
Accordingly, the province urgently deployed epidemiological investigators to Muan and Sinan counties. They are conducting intensive epidemiological investigations to identify additional movements of confirmed cases and additional contacts at risk of infection through CCTV and GPS analysis, and to find the source of infection.
In addition, since the 14th, comprehensive testing has been conducted on about 4,000 residents of Jido-eup, Sinan County, and contacts in Muan County.
So far, 1,319 people have tested negative, and the rest are undergoing testing.
Depending on the diagnostic test results, there are plans to expand testing to Jindo-myeon if necessary. On this day, a mobile bus screening clinic visiting Jido-eup Administrative Welfare Center was also additionally deployed.
Kang Young-gu, Director of the Health and Welfare Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, “Violation of quarantine rules can be the starting point of community infection,” and urged, “Residents who have been in contact with confirmed cases related to the church in Jido-eup or whose movement overlaps should visit screening clinics immediately for diagnostic testing regardless of symptoms.”
