[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The four-day Lunar New Year holiday is a precious time for examinees as well. Even if you spend a long time at home, if you plan it well, you can maintain your daily rhythm and make up for what you lacked.
To avoid confusion, you need to make a thorough plan for the four days. Create a study plan that can be completed within the four days, but keep the scope small and manageable to enhance your sense of accomplishment. One method is to do advance learning of inquiry subjects or subjects for the third year of high school. Setting goals based on quantity rather than time can help improve concentration.
Using problem-solving or online lectures rather than concept review
It is recommended to use problem-solving or online lectures rather than reviewing concepts. Instead of trying to finish multiple units and subjects greedily, it is better to study only as much as you can complete. For example, try solving problem sets on statistical estimation in math or modern literature in Korean, or review some lacking parts again.
If solving problems feels burdensome, using online lectures is also an option. The social studies and science inquiry areas are easier to study through online lectures compared to other areas, making it good to utilize the holiday period. If you finish 3 to 4 lectures a day, you can complete a total of 12 to 16 lectures during the holiday. You might be able to lightly finish 1 to 2 units.
Woo Yeon-cheol, head of the Admissions Strategy Research Institute at JinHakSa, advised, "Instead of setting many plans that are difficult to implement during the Lunar New Year holiday or resting excessively just because it is a holiday, it is important to set achievable study goals and maintain your study rhythm. After achieving your goals and experiencing a sense of accomplishment, your study momentum will increase after the holiday ends."
Re-solving the March academic assessment... Mid-term check of elective subjects
Re-solving last year's March academic assessment is also a good method. This year's CSAT introduces elective subjects in Korean and Math, but the 2022 CSAT sample questions from the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation are mandatory, and by solving the March academic assessment questions in advance, you can assess your current standing. A mid-term check of Korean and Math elective subjects is also necessary. It is difficult to know immediately which subjects are advantageous or disadvantageous, but for now, examinees should consider subjects they like and are confident in when weighing their choices. If you decide mentally, advance learning is also one of the strategies.
Check your student record and make plans for the new semester. Refer to the '2021 School Life Record Guidelines' and 'Materials for Detailed Academic Ability and Special Notes' to review your student record and design your application plans for early and regular admissions. If you plan to apply through the comprehensive student record screening, find your strengths and weaknesses in the student record and make a plan to supplement them in your third year of high school. If you have time, drafting a rough version of the self-introduction letter, which has a changed format this year, is also not a bad idea.
Lee Manki, head of the Uway Education Evaluation Research Institute, said, "Even during a four-day holiday, to avoid regrets later, it is necessary to complete at least one thing thoroughly under a strict time plan. That way, you can start the new semester with confidence."
