[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] CU announced on the 25th that it will be the first in the industry to completely replace the packaging of all PB bottled water with label-free transparent PET bottles. This label-free transparent PB bottled water was planned to help customers practice recycling more easily and to increase the recycling rate of collected waste PET bottles in Korea.
The HEYROO Mineral Water 500ml, which will be the first to apply the label-free packaging, will be released in a transparent PET bottle with no label on the front of the product and no brand printed. To help customers distinguish the product, only the water bottle cap will feature CU's BI color, purple. Product information such as the product name and mandatory details including volume, source of water, and mineral content will be printed on the sealing label on the bottle cap.
CU plans to launch the renewed design of HEYROO Mineral Water 500ml from early next month and apply label-free transparent PET bottles to all CU PB bottled water products (1L, 2L) within the first quarter of this year.
A BGF Retail official said, “CU has already been leading the industry in applying eco-friendly packaging, such as inserting perforation lines in most PB beverages to apply easy-cutting labels that are easy to remove. We will continue company-wide efforts in various areas including products, services, and marketing to establish ourselves as a green platform where eco-friendliness can be naturally practiced in daily life.”
