[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] A man in his 30s who, while intoxicated, assaulted his 7-year-old son and stepson to the point of damaging their teeth and forced them out onto the street on a rainy day was sentenced to prison.
The Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 10 (Judge Kim Kyungrok) announced on the 22nd that A (36), who was indicted for violating the Child Welfare Act, was sentenced to 2 years in prison. The court also ordered A to complete 120 hours of a child abuse treatment program.
The court stated, "It appears that A repeatedly and continuously inflicted violence on the children over a long period, and despite multiple warnings from residents, the abuse did not stop. It also seems that the abuse continued as the children were not taken to the hospital even when treatment was needed for issues such as molar pain or high fever."
It added, "The children suffered significant physical and psychological injuries, and such wounds can remain as scars that are not easily erased during their growth process, making severe punishment inevitable."
A is accused of violently hitting his biological son B (7) on the face and body while intoxicated at a chicken restaurant he operated in Yangsan City, Gyeongnam Province, on July 17 last year.
Due to A's assault, B suffered serious injuries including a split lip and two front teeth being pushed inward.
Additionally, on the early morning of the 22nd of the same month, A, while intoxicated, verbally abused B and his stepson C (7) with phrases like "Die," assaulted them, and forced their heads to collide. As a result, the children sustained injuries such as broken teeth and bruises on their arms.
Afterward, A forced the injured children out of the house barefoot, and the children wandered the rainy streets until they were found by nearby residents and taken to a hospital.
When residents asked about their injuries, the children initially lied, saying, "We fell while riding a bicycle," but upon further questioning, they revealed they had been beaten by A. They also pleaded, "Please don't tell Dad. He will beat me to death."
Police investigations revealed that A had also been punished for assaulting B when he was 9 months old.
