Seodaemun-gu Removes 72 Building Signs on Tongillo, Yeonhillo, Yeonseillo, and Eungamro

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) announced on the 20th that it recently refurbished 72 ownerless or old signboards in areas such as Tongil-ro, Yeonhui-ro, Yonsei-ro, and Eungam-ro to enhance citizen safety and urban aesthetics.

First, after preliminary investigation and consent, the district removed a total of 58 abandoned ownerless signboards, including 26 wall-mounted signboards, 31 projecting signboards, and 1 pole-mounted signboard.

Next, although not ownerless, 12 old and damaged wall-mounted signboards and 2 projecting signboards were removed with the consent of building owners and business operators.

Additionally, for other signboards within the project area, the district inspected installation base corrosion, electrical safety, and fixation status, and provided guidance for maintenance or replacement when necessary.

The district carried out this project in collaboration with the Seodaemun branch of the Seoul Outdoor Advertising Association. The branch has been conducting volunteer activities for the maintenance and removal of dangerous signboards ahead of the rainy and typhoon seasons every year.

Mayor Moon Seok-jin stated, “Since signboards are a part of urban culture, we will continue to strive for the establishment of a safe and beautiful outdoor advertising culture, and we ask for the active cooperation of building owners, merchants, and advertising operators.”
