Proactive Testing 1-2 Times Weekly for Care, Childcare, and Social Welfare Workers... Gwangjin-gu Implements Proactive Testing for All Staff to Prevent Administrative Service Gaps
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) has launched comprehensive testing targeting infection-vulnerable facilities to prevent the spread of COVID-19 cluster infections within the district.
First, since December 18 last year, the district has been conducting comprehensive COVID-19 testing to prevent cluster infections targeting local elderly care facilities (once a week), nursing hospitals and psychiatric hospitals (twice a week), and social welfare facilities.
In addition, a public notice was issued requesting that all facility workers undergo mandatory preemptive testing upon returning from leave and remain at home until the results are confirmed.
The number of preemptive tests conducted includes 646 tests at elderly care facilities and senior residential welfare facilities, 2,184 tests at social welfare centers, facilities for the disabled, daycare centers, and other social welfare and childcare facilities, and 1,794 tests at nursing hospitals and psychiatric hospitals.
As of January 18, a total of 4,624 tests have been conducted, with 4 individuals testing positive and the rest testing negative.
Through this preemptive testing, the district identified 4 asymptomatic infected individuals and responded immediately, preventing any additional confirmed cases.
Also, following a confirmed case of a social service worker from another autonomous district on the 15th, preemptive testing was conducted for social service workers at social welfare facilities, all of whom tested negative.
Furthermore, all Gwangjin-gu employees have been undergoing preemptive testing since December last year to prevent any gaps in public administrative services.
The testing prioritizes employees who frequently interact with the public, such as those at community service centers and the district office civil affairs office, and as of January 18, 78% of Gwangjin-gu employees have completed testing.
Mayor Kim Seon-gap of Gwangjin-gu stated, “Recently, cluster infection cases have been occurring one after another, starting with vulnerable facilities such as nursing facilities and hospitals. To prevent this, the district is conducting weekly preemptive testing focusing on vulnerable facilities and has requested through official notices that mandatory preemptive testing be conducted upon returning from leave.”
He added, “We will do our utmost to block infection sources by early detecting asymptomatic and latent infected individuals through preemptive testing.”
