New Museum Leap and Dedicated Preparations for Relocation to Sejong Expected
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded a certificate of appointment to Kim Jong-dae, the director of the National Folk Museum, on the 18th. He is the newly appointed director selected through an open recruitment process by the Ministry of Personnel Management. His term is three years, until January 17, 2024.
Director Kim is a museum expert who worked at the National Folk Museum from 1984 to 2004, serving as head of the Folk Research Division and the Exhibition Operations Division. He also served as a professor in the Department of Folklore and the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Chung-Ang University, nurturing future scholars and producing extensive research on village rituals and Korean dokkaebi (goblins). He has been actively involved in the folklore and museum fields, serving as president of the Korean Folklore Society and the Korean Museum Education Society, among other roles.
Park Yang-woo, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "Based on his rich experience accumulated in the field and academia, we expect him to lead a new leap forward for the National Folk Museum." He added, "I hope he will also ensure the smooth progress of preparations for relocating the National Folk Museum to Sejong, contributing to balanced cultural development across regions."
