Seoul Gangseo-gu Launches Official YouTube Channel for Youth

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Opinions proposed by children will become district policies this year.

Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Noh Hyun-song) announced that it held the 4th Children’s Participation Committee Policy Report Meeting online and non-face-to-face on the 13th.

The Children’s Participation Committee is a meeting established to collect opinions through children’s participation and decide policies. At the meeting, participating children proposed various policies from their own perspectives to the district office and the education office.

The meeting was conducted in five fields: education, human rights, welfare, culture, and environment.

The main contents included ▲strengthening crackdowns on after-school private education facilities’ nighttime operations ▲diversification and activation of human rights education ▲protection of students’ safety from traffic ▲establishment of promotional media for cultural facilities for Gangseo-gu youth ▲activation of environmental education and production of environmental newspapers.

In particular, some of the proposals from the day are expected to be implemented as actual policies.

In the cultural field, the project “Establishment of promotional media for cultural facilities for Gangseo-gu youth” will be promoted by launching the official YouTube channel for Gangseo-gu youth to promote cultural facilities in the region.

In the traffic field, the bicycle road on Uhyun-ro, which children pointed out as dangerous, will be maintained. Installation of convex mirrors in front of Yangcheon Elementary School and Welton Hospital will also be considered.

The environmental policy proposal to produce an environmental newspaper will be reviewed for introduction by utilizing the pages of Gangseo Dream Hill, Gangseo-gu’s children’s newsletter.

A district official said, “Despite difficulties due to the spread of COVID-19 last year, we express our gratitude to the Children’s Participation Committee members who proposed good policies,” and added, “We will strongly support so that various policies proposed by children can actually be realized.”

At the policy report meeting, the appointment ceremony for 36 members of the 5th Children’s Participation Committee, who will be active this year, was also held.

The 5th Children’s Participation Committee plans to discover new policies through discussions and investigations throughout the year and reflect children’s opinions in district policies as representatives of Gangseo-gu children.
