IGAWorks, Mobile Index Announce '2020 South Korea Mobile App Landscape' Report
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Last year, Coupang Eats grew 15 times in the delivery application (app) sector. Coupang is solidifying its dominance by leading the mobile commerce app market.
On the 14th, mobile big data company IGAWorks released the "Mobile Index 2020 Korea Mobile App Landscape Report," which includes this information. The report analyzed 2 billion data points from 40 million mobile devices daily (based on combined Android and iOS data) from January 1 to December 31 of last year using artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms.
According to the report, a notable issue in the delivery app market last year was Coupang Eats, which grew more than 15 times within a year. The average daily users of Coupang Eats in December reached 460,235, a 15.4-fold increase compared to 29,869 users in January. The monthly active users (MAU), which stood at around 265,507 in January, also increased more than tenfold to 2,843,869 in December. In December, Baedal Minjok had 17.15 million monthly users, and Yogiyo had 7.74 million. Coupang Eats appears to have secured the third position, threatening the leading ranks.
In mobile commerce, Coupang's dominance continues. In December last year, the Coupang app had 21,412,004 users, showing an overwhelming difference compared to competing apps and ranking first in user numbers. The second-place app, 11st, had 8.85 million users in December, more than 10 million fewer than the first place. Additionally, Coupang recorded the highest number of new device installations among the top five commerce apps in December, with 866,753 installations (based on Android OS).
