[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Mirae Company (CEO Kim Jungoo) was selected as a top company in the materials, parts, and equipment (SoBuJang) sector, which the government plans to actively support, on the 11th.
This selection marks the government's first designation of SoBuJang top companies, with a total of 22 companies including Mirae Company chosen. It was explained that companies with outstanding technology in the SoBuJang field were selected comprehensively considering the importance and urgency of the technology, company strategy, and stability.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) has continuously announced that it will select 100 materials, parts, and equipment companies with the world's best technological capabilities and potential in core strategic technology fields by 2024, including the 22 companies selected this time, and provide focused support so they can grow into global leading “top companies.”
Accordingly, six key focus areas in materials, parts, and equipment (semiconductors, displays, automobiles, machinery/metals, electrical/electronics, basic chemicals) were designated, and competitive companies capable of possessing and developing core strategic technologies were selected through strict evaluations (document review, on-site inspection, in-depth evaluation, comprehensive evaluation) by field.
Once selected as a SoBuJang top company, the company will receive concentrated support through linkage with over 100 available government-wide programs centered on MOTIE, including up to 5 billion KRW annually and a total of 25 billion KRW in research and development (R&D) support over the next five years, providing an important opportunity for selected companies to enhance their technological capabilities in the global market.
Dedicated programs for SoBuJang top companies include R&D support, demonstration support for mass production/commercialization, loans, funds, and regulatory exemptions. Additionally, companies will have opportunities to receive comprehensive support tailored to their needs from among over 100 cross-ministerial support projects through collaboration between the company, dedicated agencies, MOTIE, and related ministries.
Mirae Company was able to be selected as a SoBuJang top company because it maintains the number one global market share in the core strategic technology field of precision grinding processing technology and is widely recognized for its competitiveness. Based on its core strategic technology, it was highly evaluated for its potential to grow into a global top company in the display, semiconductor, and secondary battery sectors.
CEO Kim Jungoo said, “Since being selected as a World Class company in 2016, the continued recognition of Mirae Company’s competitiveness and potential through selection as a SoBuJang top company is very encouraging. I am grateful to everyone who has given us a positive evaluation for always prioritizing technology and dedicating ourselves to research and development.”
