Recognition for Continuous Expansion of High-Risk Youth Identification, Management, and Support Projects... Expanding Service Areas to Schools and Communities to Overcome Youth Crisis Issues
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that on the 25th, the Geumcheon-gu Youth Counseling and Welfare Center was selected as an excellent institution for youth projects at the ‘Seoul Metropolitan Government Joint Youth Safety Network Reporting Conference’ held online, and received a commendation from the Mayor of Seoul.
On this day, the Geumcheon Center was selected as an excellent institution for operating the youth safety network among 25 youth counseling and welfare centers in Seoul, and at the same time, a center staff member was awarded the Mayor of Seoul’s commendation as a meritorious person in youth projects, achieving a double crown.
The Geumcheon Center is entrusted and operated by the Blue Tree Foundation. It contributes to the sound development and protection of youth by performing the role of an integrated community youth support system, providing counseling, emergency rescue, self-support assistance, and education for youth aged 9 to 24.
This year, to relieve the stress and anxiety of youth caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the Geumcheon Center expanded its service areas to schools and local communities by promoting multi-layered interventions such as the ‘Mind Vaccine’ project, a psychological quarantine network for youth in our neighborhood.
In addition, in preparation for the post-COVID-19 era, routine programs were converted online, establishing a foundation to provide psychological and emotional services safely to youth, families, and communities in any crisis.
Furthermore, the center has been continuously expanding support and case management for high-risk youth by operating the youth safety network integrated case meetings on a regular basis to support the resolution of crisis issues for youth in danger.
Moreover, through ‘Geumcheon Naraeul,’ ‘School Violence Safety Fence,’ and ‘Growing Together with Family,’ which are ‘Youth, Family, and Community Growth Specialized Projects’ reflecting local characteristics, the community actively intervened in the multidimensional crisis issues surrounding youth, thereby strengthening the youth safety network.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “This award is thanks to the joint efforts of youth themselves, guardians, and the community to protect the safety of youth despite the difficult conditions caused by COVID-19,” and added, “We will continue to strive to strengthen the youth safety network by identifying youth needs and providing customized services.”
