Pukyong National University to Radically Restructure Academic Organization... Organizational Innovation to Foster 'Convergent Creative Talent' Pukyong National University campus view.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-soo) has launched a major academic organization restructuring.

The key to organizational innovation is fostering convergence and creative talents to lead future new industries in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

On the 25th, Pukyong National University announced that it has finalized the academic organization restructuring plan to realize the newly established university development plan and talent vision, and submitted the corresponding student quota adjustment plan to the Ministry of Education.

This academic organization restructuring aims to proactively reflect the rapidly changing educational environment and establish the foundation for a shared growth-type educational ecosystem.

To cultivate convergence and creative talents based on convergence education and interdisciplinary studies, a new undergraduate college (tentative name) responsible for basic liberal arts education and first-year education will be established.

New students at Pukyong National University will develop core competencies through various intellectual training based on convergence and integration, including basic liberal arts education, major fundamentals, career counseling and planning, and extracurricular courses during their first year at the undergraduate college, and then begin their major studies in earnest from the second year.

To lower barriers between academic fields and promote convergence, the faculty system will be fully implemented in colleges.

Twelve new faculties will be formed by grouping from two to a maximum of five majors into one faculty. Students belonging to the same faculty can broaden their academic scope by taking common major courses even if their majors differ.

To cultivate specialized talents for future industry demands, a new college will also be established. The College of Information Convergence will be newly created, comprising six faculties and 14 majors, including departments related to new industries from the existing College of Engineering, as well as Human Bio Convergence Major, Human ICT Convergence Major, and Big Data Major to train specialized personnel for new industries.

In the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, a Social Welfare Major responding to aging society will be established, and in the College of Natural Sciences, a Scientific System Simulation Department for advanced industrial design will be newly created to respond to new industries by field.

This academic organization restructuring plan will be applied from the 2022 academic year after review by the Ministry of Education.

President Jang Young-soo of Pukyong National University said, “Pukyong National University will lead academic development linked to key industries in the Busan region such as marine industries as a region-centered national university, and respond to national policies such as fostering new industries related to the 4th Industrial Revolution and nurturing basic protective disciplines. We will take this as a starting point for innovative founding of the university through support for student-specialized majors.”
