[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) will hold the pet culture festival “2020 Together with Pets in Nowon” at Deungnamu Neighborhood Park in Junggye-dong on the 31st from 1 PM for four hours.
This festival, held for the third time this year, aims to improve awareness of animal welfare and establish a sound pet culture where humans and animals coexist in the era of 10 million pets.
The main events of the festival include a birthday party for abandoned dogs, a pet etiquette quiz, and a pet sports day, along with experiential programs such as a dog walking class, health consultations, basic grooming, and making leashes and name tags, conducted across a total of 23 booths.
Detailed events will be held at the main stage near the Buk Seoul Museum of Art, including a birthday party for six adopted abandoned dogs and a pet etiquette OX quiz. In the center of the park, a playground and sports ground will be set up for the pet sports day. In the sports day, rankings will be given based on events such as hurdle jumping and “The Rose of Sharon Has Bloomed” game with pets, and prizes will be awarded to top participants. Participation can be registered on-site on the day of the event.
The 23 event booths are filled with programs essential for pet families.
There are health consultation booths providing essential health information and counseling for dog owners, grooming booths where simple pet grooming can be learned while receiving services, and behavioral correction counseling booths where information and education can be obtained. There is also a caricature booth that draws memories with pets, and all programs are free of charge.
A walking class to spread proper pet culture will also be operated. With the help of experts, participants can learn manners to observe during walks and how to respond to various situations through practical exercises.
Additionally, there are experiential programs where participants can make leashes, name tags, and aroma deodorants for their pets.
There will also be a promotional booth for “Daengdaeng House,” a pet culture center that opened on the 28th in Sanggye 1-dong. Daengdaeng House is equipped with convenience facilities such as a cafe and self-dry room for pet families, operates lifestyle-oriented pet culture education programs, and supports the protection and adoption of abandoned animals.
The pet culture festival, which everyone can enjoy together, allows free entry with pets, conducts temperature checks at all entrances, provides social distancing guidance, and proceeds according to quarantine guidelines.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “In a situation where it is difficult to move around freely, pets must have felt very frustrated just like the residents. I hope everyone who loves pets will fully interact with their pets at this festival created together and help foster a mature pet culture.”
