Helping to Induce Specific Brainwaves to Maintain Positive Psychological States... Planned for Use in Mental Health and Psychological Counseling of Children and Adolescents
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) introduced a personalized brain training program, "Neurofeedback training," starting this month in celebration of "World Mental Health Day" on the 10th.
The neurofeedback service is an advanced brain training method that helps individuals generate specific brainwaves associated with maintaining a positive psychological state. It aids in improving attention and emotional stability.
The training involves attaching electrodes to the scalp to collect brainwave signals in real time, which are then classified into various frequency bands for in-depth analysis. Through engaging mediums such as video games, specific frequency areas of the brain are either suppressed or enhanced according to the individual, stabilizing brain function.
To this end, the district introduced the training equipment "NeuronFlex," certified by the Korean Society of Brainwave Neurophysiology, and mental health experts have obtained professional qualifications to operate the service.
Furthermore, starting with 15 registered child and adolescent members of the Gangnam-gu Mental Health Welfare Center, the service will be actively utilized at the youth psychological counseling center scheduled to be established later this year in the Daechi-dong academy district.
Yang Oh-seung, head of the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center, stated, "Through the neurofeedback service, we will strengthen the public nature of Gangnam-gu's mental health welfare services, from managing chronic mental illness patients to suicide prevention and psychological quarantine for residents exhausted by COVID-19."
