29th Songpa District Residents Awards for COVID-19 Efforts: 'Songpa Medical Association' Recipient The Songpa Medical Association selected as the Grand Prize winner of the 29th Songpa Residents' Day 'Songpa Residents' Award'

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will hold the ‘29th Songpa Residents' Day Ceremony’ on the 28th in an ontact format.

‘Songpa Residents' Day’ was established to commemorate September 17, 1988, the day the Seoul Olympics were held.

Every year, the district has held the ceremony at the Olympic Peace Plaza along with the representative festival of Songpa, the Hansung Baekje Cultural Festival, but this year it was prepared in an ontact format to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place on the 28th at 3 p.m. in the district office auditorium with 40 attendees including the Songpa Residents Award recipients and related personnel.

The program includes a string quartet performance by the Heart Heart Orchestra, composed of artists with developmental disabilities, the reading of the Residents' Charter, and the Songpa Residents Award ceremony. For the reading of the Residents' Charter, Kim Hye-won and Song Tae-min, university student representatives among the newly selected resident models for the promotion of the new city brand, will participate for the first time this year.

The district plans to broadcast the ceremony live through the Songpa TV YouTube channel so that many residents can participate online.

In particular, this year, a total of 14 teams, including individuals and organizations such as the Songpa Medical Association, were selected for the Songpa Residents Award. They were publicly recommended and reviewed in eight categories including volunteer work, resident harmony, and regional economic revitalization.

The Songpa Medical Association, selected for the grand prize, received high praise for leading the COVID-19 response. Since March, they have been at the forefront of supporting medical personnel at the health center’s screening clinics and have also been dedicated to long-term medical volunteer work for vulnerable groups, including weekly free medical services for foreigners.

Along with this, the awardees include ▲ Kim Mi-hoe (female, 59), who has led youth guidance and probation as a member of the Ministry of Justice’s Law Love Committee for crime prevention ▲ Lee Yeon-chan (82), a Vietnam War veteran who debuted as a poet in the 2010 Seoul Literature and has composed patriotic poems for veterans’ families for several years ▲ Samsung SDS (CEO Hong Won-pyo), which has practiced social contribution through purchasing Onnuri gift certificates worth 2 billion won and establishing IT education facilities ▲ and the Heart Heart Foundation (Chairman Oh Ji-cheol), which has worked to improve awareness of developmental disabilities through operating the Heart Heart Orchestra composed of people with developmental disabilities since 2006.

Mayor Park Seong-su said, “I sincerely thank the residents who have quietly worked for the development of Songpa in every corner of the community despite the difficult situation caused by COVID-19,” and added, “We will continue to join forces with the 680,000 residents to create a livable city Songpa where anyone can live safely and happily.”
