[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The 10th Korea-Mekong Foreign Ministers' Meeting will be held on the 28th in the form of a video conference, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh of Vietnam will co-chair the meeting together.
The five Mekong countries refer to Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, located along the Mekong River basin (total length approximately 4,020 km).
Korea-Mekong cooperation has been held annually since 2011 at the proposal of South Korea to contribute to reducing development gaps within ASEAN and to promote economic cooperation between Korea and the Mekong region through supporting the development of the Mekong area. Last year, the 1st Korea-Mekong Summit was held, upgrading the meeting to the summit level.
At this Foreign Ministers' Meeting, Korea and the five Mekong countries plan to review the major achievements of Korea-Mekong cooperation, which was elevated to the summit level last year, and have in-depth discussions on future development directions.
