[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Which companies are the ‘good companies’ leading the prevention and management of occupational diseases among workers and promoting health improvement activities?

The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA, President Park Doo-yong) announced on the 18th the selection of 14 ‘Outstanding Workplaces for Worker Health Promotion Activities.’

The selection of outstanding workplaces for worker health promotion activities is a system in which KOSHA evaluates the health promotion activities implemented at workplaces to prevent occupational diseases and promote workers’ health, and selects excellent workplaces accordingly.

The selection is held twice a year, in the first and second half. Based on a total of 43 evaluation criteria including system establishment for health promotion, awareness level, and program operation, on-site visits and a selection committee review are conducted to choose outstanding workplaces.

Among the 14 workplaces finally selected this time, 11 were newly selected, and 3 were selected consecutively.

The 11 newly selected workplaces are ▲ CJ CheilJedang Corporation Ansan Plant ▲ TaeWoong Co., Ltd. Steelmaking Division ▲ Haesung DS Co., Ltd. ▲ Seoul Metropolitan Eastern Hospital ▲ POSCO ICT Headquarters ▲ Samsung C&T Corporation 1784 Project Phase 2 Construction ▲ Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. Teheran-ro 237 Development Project New Construction ▲ SK Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. Sinnnae SK V1 Center ▲ SK Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. LuOne City SK Leaders VIEW Phase 1 ▲ SK Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. Hynix M16 Ph-1 PJT ▲ CJ Logistics Corporation Megahub Gonjiam, etc.

The 3 consecutively selected workplaces are △ CJ CheilJedang Corporation Incheon Frozen Food Plant, △ Yuhan-Kimberly Co., Ltd. Daejeon Plant, and △ Hyundai Motor Company Asan Plant.

The newly selected Seoul Metropolitan Eastern Hospital received high scores for operating the ‘Metabolic Syndrome Mobile Clinic,’ which evaluates the risk of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease and selects high-risk groups.

The Hyundai Motor Company Asan Plant, selected consecutively, formed a musculoskeletal disease prevention committee involving management and labor unions and an ergonomics TFT to implement a musculoskeletal disease prevention program within the workplace. The steady decrease in musculoskeletal diseases among workers earned it a good evaluation.

The 14 selected workplaces will be prioritized for government awards for three years and receive preferential support for costs necessary to promote health improvement activities, among other benefits.

KOSHA has been selecting outstanding workplaces for health promotion activities since 2011, and the selected workplaces can be confirmed on the agency’s website under announcements.

A KOSHA official stated, “We plan to disseminate the know-how of the selected outstanding workplaces to workplaces nationwide,” and added, “We hope these serve as exemplary cases not only for preventing work-related diseases but also for promoting workers’ health.”
