Operation of Base Disinfection Facilities 24 Hours, Management of Quarantine Countermeasure Situation Room
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City announced on the 11th that despite the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, it is working hard on quarantine efforts by operating the quarantine countermeasure situation room and key disinfection facilities year-round to prevent African Swine Fever.
Currently, African Swine Fever is spreading mainly in the areas near the Demilitarized Zone, including Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do, raising concerns about outbreaks in pig farms, making it impossible to let down the guard.
In Gwangyang City, about 7,000 pigs are raised in six farms, and since September last year, a quarantine countermeasure situation room has been established to maintain an emergency work system at a serious level.
Additionally, key disinfection facilities operate 24/7 year-round, disinfecting all livestock vehicles and drivers entering and leaving the area and issuing disinfection certificates. The city also participates in video conferences hosted by central government ministries more than three times a week, installs fences to prevent wild boar access, supplies quarantine chemicals, and implements proactive preventive measures.
Lee Sam-sik, Director of Agricultural Support Division, stated, “We will continue to conduct surveillance of pig farms, check compliance with quarantine rules, provide quarantine education for foreign workers, supply preventive medicines, and implement continuous quarantine measures to ensure that African Swine Fever does not occur.”
