Yeonggwang-gun, All-Out Effort to Restore Damage from Heavy Rainfall

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeon Seong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Jun-seong) announced on the 11th that it is making every effort to swiftly carry out emergency restoration work by deploying emergency restoration and case management personnel and staff to Ipam-ri, Beopseong-myeon, where houses were flooded due to heavy rain and river overflow on the 8th.

During the prolonged rainy season, Beopseong-myeon experienced a torrential downpour recording a maximum of 55.5 mm per hour in the early morning of the 8th, causing the Watancheon River to overflow and quickly submerge the house of Mr. Han, who lives in the low-lying Ipamdong area of Ipam-ri.

The family of five, including his elderly mother, wife, and children, narrowly escaped and urgently evacuated to the village hall.

The house, from which the water receded after three days, was in a truly devastating condition.

Due to the flooding, all furniture and home appliances were completely unusable and had to be discarded, and machinery directly used for farming such as excavators, tractors, and trucks were all submerged and rendered useless.

The county provided supplies worth approximately 2 million won, including blankets, microwave ovens, refrigerators, and clothing for basic living needs.

Governor Kim Jun-seong, who directed the emergency restoration on that day, urged, “Please do your best in emergency restoration so that the disaster victims can quickly return to their daily lives.”

The county is providing various support measures such as emergency welfare, case management, Yeonggwang Storage, and welfare mobile teams to alleviate the shock of damage and help residents quickly return to normal life when they face sudden crises.

Governor Kim said, “I believe the most necessary thing for residents in crisis is immediate support,” and added, “Residents experiencing difficulties should not hesitate to contact us, and we will prepare various measures to work together with the residents to overcome the crisis.”
