[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] GS Retail announced on the 11th that it delivered emergency relief supplies to support disaster victims in Jeollanam-do, who are suffering from continuous heavy rain.
On the 10th, GS Retail provided approximately 1,000 servings of food items such as instant rice, bottled water, and ramen to the Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of the Korean Red Cross located in Gwangju to support disaster victims in Jeonnam. Currently, Jeonnam has suffered significant damage including embankment collapses, landslides, and house flooding due to the ongoing heavy rain, resulting in many disaster victims.
In July, GS Retail signed a business agreement worth 150 billion KRW with Jeollanam-do to promote the consumption of domestic agricultural, marine, and livestock products. For the disaster victims in Jeollanam-do affected this time, GS Retail immediately prepared ready-to-eat food supplies and delivered them to the Korean Red Cross. These supplies were prioritized for disaster victims in need.
This emergency relief supply support by GS Retail is the third case following the provision of 500 servings of food supplies to residents of Danyang-gun, Chungbuk on the 3rd, and the delivery of about 1,000 bottles of water to an apartment in Dong-gu, Busan on July 27.
GS Retail is operating a 24-hour hotline to respond to support requests to minimize human and material damage caused by the ongoing heavy rain and typhoons, and is actively cooperating in flood damage support and recovery projects.
Meanwhile, this year, GS Retail donated about 15,000 masks in cooperation with the Korean Red Cross to overcome the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and delivered relief supplies worth 100 million KRW to Korean residents returning from Wuhan, China.
Additionally, GS Retail has taken the lead in smooth disaster recovery activities and supporting local residents in national disasters by delivering relief supplies to areas affected by the wildfire evacuation in April 2019, the sinkhole damage in Gasan-dong in August 2018, the Pohang earthquake in November 2018, and the Gangneung wildfire in May.
