Assemblyman Heo Jong-sik Secures 2.2 Billion KRW in Special Grants for Incheon Youth Complex Space Development and More

Dong-gu Youth Complex Space 3rd Branch to Open in May Next Year
Michuhol-gu Juan Sports Center Development Project Also Gains Momentum

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The third branch of the 'Youth Complex Space' will be established in Bae-dari, Dong-gu, a representative old downtown area of Incheon, and the 'Juan Sports Center Construction' project in Michuhol-gu is also expected to gain momentum.

Heo Jongsik, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Incheon Dong-gu·Michuhol-gu Gap), announced on the 9th that he secured 2.2 billion KRW in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, including 1.5 billion KRW for the Incheon Dong-gu Youth Complex Space construction project.

The Youth Complex Space, to be created in the former Jiseong Pediatric Clinic building (1 basement floor, 5 above-ground floors / total floor area 824.4㎡) located in the Bae-dari area (14 Songnim-ro, Dong-gu), will be used as a space for youth education, culture, arts, employment, and entrepreneurship.

The Youth Complex Space started with the first branch in Michuhol-gu in 2017, followed by the second branch in Bupyeong-gu in February this year, and the third branch is scheduled to open in Dong-gu around May next year.

The Dong-gu Youth Complex Space is significant as it will be established in the old downtown area, where youth population outflow is severe, and it will be linked with various regeneration projects in the Bae-dari area.

By resolving the controversy over the so-called 'Bae-dari Through Road,' a connecting road between Dong-gu and Jung-gu, after 20 years, Incheon City is signaling a transformation of the space above the underpass and the space beneath the Gyeongin Line railroad into areas for citizens.

Additionally, the 'Juan Sports Center Construction' project, a pressing issue in Michuhol-gu, has also gained speed with the securing of 700 million KRW in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

The Juan Sports Center is being promoted as an urban planning facility project (market → parking lot and sports facilities) for disaster-risk facilities at risk of collapse (former Jaeheung Market, 1472 Juan-dong).

Michuhol-gu plans to start construction as early as May next year and complete it by December after conducting detailed design services this year.

The Juan Sports Center, with a site area of 1,884.4㎡ and consisting of 1 basement floor and 3 above-ground floors, will utilize the basement and first floor as parking lots, which is expected to contribute to alleviating parking difficulties and improving the residential environment.

Representative Heo Jongsik stated, "The establishment of the Dong-gu Youth Complex Space and the Michuhol-gu Juan Sports Center will breathe new life into the old downtown areas as spaces for communication and culture," adding, "I will actively work to secure national funding at the National Assembly level while discovering pending projects in consultation with Incheon City, Dong-gu, Michuhol-gu, and local city and district council members."
