[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] New York City is on high alert as Hurricane Isaias approaches. It is forecasted to bring the strongest winds and rain since Hurricane Sandy struck the New York area in 2012. Significant damage has already occurred in North Carolina and other states, and tornadoes have even been reported in some areas, heightening fears.

Isaias is expected to bring strong winds of 60 to 70 miles per hour to the New York area between 1 PM and 7 PM local time on the 4th. In response, city authorities have begun preparations, including closing roads near the beaches and installing barriers to prevent flooding.


In addition to New York, hurricane warnings have been issued for New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.

Strong tornadoes have occurred in areas along the path of Isaias. In Bertie County, North Carolina, the worst tornado damage in 38 years has been reported, with most houses damaged and significant destruction. Tornadoes have also been observed in Maryland and Delaware. Meteorological authorities have warned of the possibility of tornadoes due to the eye of the hurricane.


According to CNN, the number of households without power in the eastern United States due to Isaias has reached approximately 730,000.
