[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) was recently selected as the top priority operator in the ‘Metropolitan Job Cafe Installation and Operation Contest’ hosted by Seoul City, securing a youth employment support budget of 188 million KRW for 2021.
The Metropolitan Job Cafe is a regional hub infrastructure established by Seoul City to support youth employment by creating job cafes within private, public, and university youth spaces, providing job information and employment support programs (employment counseling, mentoring, special lectures, etc.).
In this contest, Mapo-gu was finally selected as the top priority operator with the vision of developing Mapo Youth Naru, a youth-exclusive space in the region, into the best metropolitan job cafe in the northwest area.
Accordingly, the district is expected to receive operational expenses support for the metropolitan job cafe from Seoul City for the next three years, starting with 188 million KRW in 2021.
Mapo Youth Naru (Tojeong-ro 148-22, 2nd floor) is a youth-exclusive space opened by the district in December last year to support youth employment and entrepreneurship.
The district plans to operate Mapo Youth Naru as a metropolitan job cafe in the northwest area, carrying out various support projects such as youth employment and entrepreneurship capacity-building programs, ICT-based maker education, programs linked with specialized institutions related to the 4th industrial revolution, and youth network programs.
According to the district’s plan, the Mapo Youth Naru job cafe will operate a one-stop comprehensive package for employment support, including self-introduction letters, mock interviews, and consulting related to the National Competency Standards (NCS) tailored to different job seeker types (specialized high school graduates, university graduates, etc.).
Additionally, mentoring by current employees from various job fields such as large corporations, public enterprises, and startups, employment counseling and placement, one-on-one employment guidance, free provision of meeting rooms and multipurpose spaces for these activities, and operation of study spaces for self-study and job preparation are also expected roles.
Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “With the selection as the metropolitan job cafe operator, Mapo Youth Naru will establish itself as an innovative regional space for youth to design their future,” and added, “We hope for the active interest and participation of young people.”
