Seoul National University Hospital and Research & Development MOU... Promoting Public Health Based on R&D Technology and Innovative IT Capabilities

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] CJ CheilJedang is embarking on full-scale research and development to improve 'diet-related diseases' as part of efforts to promote public health.
On the 22nd, CJ CheilJedang signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for research cooperation to promote public health at Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul, attended by Kang Shin-ho, CEO of CJ CheilJedang, and Kim Yeon-su, director of Seoul National University Hospital.
The research collaboration originated from a shared understanding that fundamental prevention and management are necessary amid the increasing number of chronic disease patients due to population aging and westernized eating habits. Chronic diseases such as metabolic syndrome and kidney disease are highly related to lifestyle habits, but treatment is currently focused on medication prescriptions. Accordingly, CJ CheilJedang, which possesses the nation's top food R&D expertise, a startup with IT capabilities, and Seoul National University Hospital, the core of the national medical system, have joined hands to promote public health through dietary habit management.
As the first step, CJ CheilJedang will develop a 'dietary record application' targeting kidney disease patients in collaboration with Seoul National University Hospital. Dietary habits vary greatly depending on an individual's occupation, age, gender, etc., making management difficult. The primary goal is to develop a dietary management app that links each individual's unique dietary records with clinical indicators to provide convenience for disease prevention and treatment.
In the future, the plan is to expand the types and scale of diseases applicable to the dietary record app and develop it into food products and personalized platform services based on analyzed data. Through continuous collaboration with Seoul National University Hospital, they plan to conduct basic food science research for disease prevention and management, as well as proactively respond to environmental changes in the future food sector.
CEO Kang Shin-ho emphasized, "With a mission to contribute to public health, we will concentrate on research and development by mobilizing food R&D expertise and digital innovation technology capabilities," adding, "Based on Chairman Lee Jae-hyun's business philosophy of serving the nation through business, we will create value beyond food and lead a food culture where everyone can enjoy healthy meals."
Regarding this, Director Kim Yeon-su said, "We aim to establish ourselves as a research-oriented hospital leading qualitative changes in the medical system through the application of innovative technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution," and added, "We hope that joint research with CJ CheilJedang will provide more advanced innovative services to all citizens, including patients."
