[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Han-hyuk] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 6th that it has organized a special inspection team for livestock manure discharge facilities to resolve complaints about odors during the summer and to preserve water quality. The team will conduct surprise inspections during nighttime hours from 8 PM to 11 PM until the end of this month.
The special inspection targets a total of 627 livestock manure discharge facilities (620 barns and 7 composting sites).
In particular, focused inspections will be conducted on barns within a 3 km radius of the Innovation City, barns in Wanggok and Gongsan-myeon, and facilities that violated regulations last year, where odor complaints are frequent.
The inspection team consists of 12 members divided into 6 groups, with 2 groups operating daily.
The inspection activities focus on resolving residents' inconveniences caused by unauthorized facility installations, odors, leachate leakage, improper storage, spreading of immature compost, and unauthorized discharge of manure during the rainy season, as well as preventing water pollution in advance.
If unauthorized barns are found or violations such as ‘closure orders’ are detected, strict administrative measures and legal actions will be taken without tolerance according to relevant laws and regulations.
A city official stated, “If necessary, such as in cases of mass complaints, odor sampling will be conducted simultaneously. For companies found to exceed odor emission standards or violations, continuous follow-up management will be carried out until improvements or corrections are completed.” He added, “We ask for voluntary cooperation from farms to resolve chronic summer complaints and to promote coexistence between urban and rural areas.”
