[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Kolon held the 5th online closing ceremony for the 'Rainbow Stepping Stone Mentoring' program. The 36 mentors and mentees who participated in this activity engaged in school curriculum learning and cultural experience activities together since November last year. However, due to the difficulty of face-to-face activities caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) earlier this year, mentoring was conducted online via messenger and video calls, concluding the official 8-month program.
'Rainbow Stepping Stone Mentoring' is a support program for children from multicultural families, where youths from multicultural families are matched 1:1 with university (graduate) student mentors who share similar backgrounds, helping them overcome cultural differences, adapt to their studies, and grow healthily in Korean society.
The outstanding mentoring team, consisting of Mongolian international student mentor Tuguldur and mentee Bang Hyun-seong (pseudonym), a child from a Filipino multicultural family, shared their thoughts on the 8-month activity: "We answered the many curious questions from the mentee together and had many conversations about dreams and goals, and now we have become like inseparable older brother and younger sibling."
Kolon has been operating support projects for children from multicultural families since 2015. Along with the Rainbow Stepping Stone Mentoring program, now in its 5th term, Kolon also ran the 'Dream Job-a-ra' program, which supports multicultural youths' social advancement through obtaining certifications in the culinary field.
