Jeonju International Film Festival to Hold Long-term Screening for 104 Days Starting Next Month on the 9th... 176 Invited Films to Be Released
The Jeonju International Film Festival has unveiled 176 invited films to be screened in a long-term screening event. These include 65 Korean films and 111 international films. To minimize the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the films will be shown from September 9 to September 20 at the Jeonju Digital Independent Film Theater and theaters within Jeonju’s Movie Street. Some works will be available on the OTT platform Wavve from August 28 to September 6. Executive Director Lee Joon-dong stated, “We will screen the official invited films sequentially so that audiences and filmmakers can safely watch the films,” adding, “Once the COVID-19 situation settles, we plan to hold various programs such as inviting domestic directors and actors to Jeonju.”
Seven films will be screened in the ‘International Competition’ category. These include ‘Adam (Morocco)’ directed by Mariam Touzani, ‘Wet Season (China)’ by Gao Ming, ‘Obake (Japan)’ by Nakao Hiromichi, ‘One in a Thousand (Argentina/Germany)’ by Clarisa Navas, ‘Metamorphosis (Portugal)’ by Catarina Vasconcelos, ‘What We Found That Year (Spain)’ by Luis L?pez Carrasco, and ‘The Boy Who Wanted a Submarine (Uruguay/Argentina, etc.)’ by Alex Piperno.
In the ‘Korean Competition’ category, eleven films will be introduced, including ‘Seagull’ directed by Kim Mi-jo, ‘Monster, Ghost, Free Man’ by Hong Ji-young, ‘Don’t Save Me’ by Jung Yeon-kyung, ‘Ivy’ by Han Je-i, ‘Dustman’ by Kim Na-kyung, ‘Wind, Please Clear the Fog’ by Shin Dong-min, ‘Light and Iron’ by Bae Jong-dae, ‘Sadang-dong Plus 33’ by Jo Eun, ‘Summer of Thoughts’ by Kim Jong-jae, ‘Dispatch; I Do Not Fire Myself’ by Lee Tae-kyung, and ‘Homeless’ by Lim Seung-hyun.
Additionally, 24 films will compete in the ‘Korean Short Film Competition’, four films will be featured in the ‘Jeonju Cinema Project’, 11 documentaries and 24 feature films in ‘World Cinema’, 13 feature films and 10 short films in ‘Korean Cinema’, six films in ‘Cinema Paradise’, 21 films in ‘Stranger Than Cinema’, six films in ‘KBS Collection: The Strange Challenge of Familiar Media’, and 25 films in ‘Quay Brothers: Masters of Puppet Animation’ will be screened.
Nine works have joined the much-anticipated ‘Masters’ section. These include ‘Dance of Death, Skulls and Illusions (France/Portugal)’ by Pierre L?on, ‘Red Atmosphere (France)’ by Chris Marker, ‘I Have Never Been to Provincia (Chile)’ by Ignacio Ag?ero, ‘Margarita’s Melody (Argentina)’ by Edgardo Cozarinsky, ‘Siberia (Italy/Germany/Mexico)’ and ‘Tommaso (Italy)’ by Abel Ferrara, ‘Widower’s Tango and Twisted Mirrors (Chile)’ by Ra?l Ruiz and Valeria Sarmiento, ‘Voice of the Wind (Japan)’ by Suwa Nobuhiro, and ‘Wilcox (Canada)’ by Denis C?t?.
In the ‘Sleepless Night’ section, four films will be screened: ‘Passionate Love (France/Belgium)’ by Fabrice Du Welz, ‘Two People in the Crater (Japan)’ by Arai Haruhiko, ‘Osamu Tezuka’s Barbora (Japan)’ by Tezuka Makoto, and ‘Wild Goose Lake (China/France)’ by Diao Yinan.
From September 17 to 20, during the final days of the long-term screening event, the festival will hold a special program titled ‘Falling in Jeonju.’ This event marks the conclusion of the festival and will feature re-screenings of award-winning and notable films. A festival official said, “We will create an opportunity for domestic and international filmmakers and audiences to come together and open the stage for the film festival once again.”
